What is PathogenicaTM?

We are a provider of medical diagnostic sequencing services and products for clinical use.

For bacterial and viral infections, physicians must commonly decide whether to prescribe therapy, and which type of pathogen to treat, without actually knowing the cause of the infection.

Pathogenica applies next-generation DNA sequencing technology to meet the pressing clinical diagnostic and biosurveillance demands for rapid and low cost identification of pathogens, drug resistance genes and toxins in biological samples.

Why DNA sequencing?

There is no more accurate means of biological identification than a DNA sequence, yet existing nucleic acid based tests (for example, PCR) are low throughput, and rely on error-prone matching of a probe to a single DNA variant. The Pathogenica BioDetectionTM system applies an unprecedented library of up to 75,000 DxSeqTM probes to actually read and report the unique DNA sequence of target pathogens within a sample.

Pathogenica’s two-dimensional multiplexing method provides the only effective means to:
  • screen thousands of samples and hundreds of unique pathogens in a single day.
  • discriminate between pathogen and non-virulent “near neighbor” species with negligible false positive rate.
  • adapt to emerging polymorphisms and unknown pathogen variants.
  • deliver diagnostic assays for medicine and industry at a fraction of a dollar per pathogen.
How Is Pathogenica different than other molecular diagnostics companies?

PCR has become the gold standard for pathogen detection in many biological screening applications, but testing kits are costly low throughput.

Pathogenica utilizes the next generation of DNA sequencing technology to extract significantly more information per sample, achieving single base resolution of multiple individual pathogen identities from just one specimen.

Pathogenica is platform agnostic, which means that our DxSeqTM probes can be used in conjunction with all commercially available sequencing platforms

Clinical interpretation is conducted in-house, in conjunction with experienced physicians and using our proprietary quantitative pathogen sequencing software package.

What services will Pathogenica offer to Physicians?

Pathogenica will provide both diagnostic sequencing and solutions for clinical interpretation.

We analyze non-human genome sequences in patient samples to identify key DNA sequences for clinically relevant pathogens. For each sequence under study, we provide:
  • Detailed quantitative measures of sample quality and composition.
  • Contextual sample analysis to generate patient specific clinically useful diagnostic information.
